Boxing day shoot +1

We started to hold our traditional boxing day shoot on the 27th to allow the hunt followers to support their local meets. It means we spend 2 days on the trot in Hampshire.

Traditional start to a very cold shoot day;
First drive down to the river;
Transport for Beaters and badgerdog!
A drive through the mustard cover crop;
Traditional end to a happy shoot day;

The boxing day bimble around Alresford

followed lunch at the outlaws, Granny has invited herself beating tomorrow and we tried to burn off some calories walking around Alresford. No camera though although we will have a few cameras for tomorrows shoot. I couldnt call in on Richard on the way home as we both were in dire need of a visit to the throne room and I had a buyer waiting on my doorstep!

Merry Christmas from all at Bambibasher towers

After a great dinner cooked by the Tea Lady followed by some unusual cheese for the biccies I finished off a nice christmas pud and am enjoying a drop of something suitable for the evening!
The cheese smells like a dogs arse yet tastes divine!
I heartily recommend!

Just what are those clowns in Westminster up to?

Pa tax and waste broon despite telling us not top worry about defaulting on our mortgages, him giving away for a song our gold reserves, bailing out banks who caused all of this to happpen, foreign car companies (who lets face it bought it recently, are rich themselves so should sort out the mess themselves) and cancelling debts of 3rd world countries whilst giving financial aid to India who spunk it away on nukes and a space program whilst their own countryside is full of starving people.
Now he does this just who is funding the liebour party now Rachman?

A day in the wood before christmas

Nigel was on top form bagging the only woodcock since we started this shoot last season;

He also had the best day out of all of us which is just about typical!

Meanwhile the dogs certainly seemed to enjoy themselves but with the foxes and the pikeys helping themselves to our birds were are on a losing battle;

More mortar madness

As a follow on from the 60mm mortar self destruct here is another good one;

There is also the annual Darwin awards candidates line up and here is a definite prime candidate;

Fire in the hole!

Well fire in the wood at least!

Whilst walking down to the station this morning I heard a series of loud bangs similar to a skip being dropped, as I got closer I became aware of the flahing blue lights and saw this;

Now as the BDS seem determined to push for ban on the use of shotguns on deer by farmers for crop protection based on the allegations that deer drives by farmers are taking place again as in the 50's and 60's without any evidence and yet I seem to happen upon this gem, slug accuracy exceeding the BDS rifle test for 100 yards at 200 yards;

It seems that slugs arent counted as available for use in the test!

The weekend is nearly over

I had to drop out of my regular fortnightly visit to the shoot in Hampshire to spend time with the kids. Saturday passed in a blur of ten pin bowling, shopping and being wound up slightly!
Sunday however was much better;
1st off a trip to the local clay club, 40 bird flush for 2 and a round of English skeet.

20 out of 40 between us was our best score.

Ben with his 28 bore, a nice Beretta which he alternatley loves and hates but with which I have filled the freezer already this season!

A trip to an under 12 football game where Alex was the blind git in the black!

After this I drew a neighbours turkey ready for Christmas and walked the dogs; Here is Spike, bens dog showing how even winter doesnt stop the attraction of muddy puddles.

Here is Sampson the Tea Lady's hound! He is a happy chap!

The red cords saga continues

I was fortunate enough last night to attend a very interesting lecture by this Gent;

Unfortunately the 3 Stags had run out of fireside but had rocking reindeer on tap which was nice enough.

Plenty of nice things to see and the lecture was very interesting opening up insights into our industrial heritage, thanks!

Not the best of shoot days

A new friend attended, birds were flying as was the lead but it seems we just couldnt hit the damn things, still I spent this afternoon topping feeders and replacing Badger and Deer damaged spring nozzles with the new Wright feeder attachments from Solway Feeders.

I have picked a handful of feeders that always get damaged, we shall see what happens!

This is one of the single leg supported feeders.

A view that cant be beaten, late afternoon at the cusp of winter in English woodlands.

Beaters wives again

Dont say I didnt warn you!

Perhaps we will see something a little less revealing on our "birds" tomorrow!

ACPO

Association of Chief Police Officers.

Not a union or a talking shop but look here,

Your money is being spent to fund political lobbying by those public servants whose job is to serve the public and uphold the law!

Thanks to arrsse for this.

You cant treat cattle nor even beaters like this

Its illegal to carry beaters in a trailer on bales as they arent proper seats with seatbelts and the same applies to cattle the EU insist quite rightly I think that the animals in transit have water breaks and arent overloaded. If you doubt this you can ask Fatty, was he prosecuted because of the crime or because unlike all the thieving pikeys that do this and other various nefarious activities on others land he can be found without too much effort and brought to court.
This patently doesnt apply to anyone who has bought a ticket on a commuter train. With prices about to rise in my area by around 10% (just what is inflation again?) it seems that only the stroppy Eastern European bloke who drags the trolley of warm lager and cold tea through our train is the only one who doesnt pay for the privelidge of standing for journeys in excess of an hour.
Southern are messing up the timetable this month and cutting our services so that new trains can run fast from Hassocks into London . Just where does the MD of Southern live? That is assuming its not Paris!
